WHO WERE THE BEST ?
Pete Southam born in 58

With apologies to Rabbie Burns, Byron & purple Ronnie.

O’Leary or Revie 2 sides to compare
Both full of heart with so much flair
Revie’s leading lads or Mr. O’Leary
Who’s babes see the future oh so clearly

The answer I fear in the future may lay
They should have won more I hear people say
Not by Munich were Revie’s defeated
The ref by admission clearly cheated

Enough about refs, we all know they’re Red
Please, please lets have neutrals or White ones instead
On to the business comparison wise
The past is written but the future still lies

A place to begin?? With the keepers I’ll start
One thing in common they played with their heart
Sprake was a good ‘un & Harvey was too
But its got to be Nigel for me & for you

Harte & Kelly, The Irish pair of Ian & Gary
So solid they worry, they tackle they parry
But heres the question. are they so super
As right Paul Reaney & left Terry Cooper

Woodgate is young & maybe we’ll see
Is he the equal of big Jackie C
Many think the Chief Lucas Radebe
Is perhaps as good as any could be

Bowyer & Hopkin the 2 play like 3
John Giles & King Billy are the best that you’ll see
Norman Hunter or David Batty, the jury is out
Neither it seems can we do without

I’ve watched Harry Kewell with utter dismay
But seen the best in Eddie Gray
At the young Alan Smith we all throw acclaim
To be a new Allan Clarke must be his aim

Mick Jones, a hero & pure goal getter
Is it possible you would think better
O’Leary has bought one so young & so bold
I think Bridge’s goals will pay back in Gold

Play anywhere Paul Madeley & Lorimer’s shot
In Mills, McPhail & Eirik the future we’ve got
Memories are great & bring tears to your eye
“The future’s bright, The future’s white “ we cry

Born in 58 & proud of it
